Cultivation systems

Cultivation systems or growing techniques are methods of precisely controlling the growth of fruit trees. The “tall slender spindle” is predominant in South Tyrol. In addition, other systems are also tested, such as the Bibaum®, the 2D system or, as here, the multi-axis system. In this system, the tree only grows in two dimensions, that is, the branches are tied to the guide wires and the base branches projecting into the tramlines are pruned. In this way, the foliage does not cast any shadow and the majority of the fruits receive direct sunlight, which has a beneficial impact on ripening and fruit colouration.
