The Pillory
A pillory was a type of public humiliation device in the Middle Ages. It was made of wood and had openings for the head and hands. Convicted people were locked inside and displayed in the public square to humiliate them; a grim relic of the past, it stood on the market square. Made of wood, it offered little protection from the curious glances and scornful remarks of passersby.
